TRUE STORY

Maybe this post really belongs on my buddy Danny's Laker site, http://www.laballtalk.com (sorry, had to throw in a shameless plug for my friend's site)...

...so I noticed the good folks over at Fox Sports West (FSW) are doing something really cool this year: after every Sunday night Laker home game, they replay a "classic" Laker game. Last week, the Lakers were playing the Sacramento Kings so FSW showed Game 4 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals when Robert Horry hit his magical three at the buzzer. This week, the Lakers were playing the Toronto Raptors so FSW showed the game in January 2006 where Kobe scored 81. I'm actually watching the FSW replay as we speak and this brings us to what's really on my mind and the "true story" that this post is based on...

...For the Christmas of 2005, my sister (knowing I'm a huge Laker fan) bought me tickets to that game (where Kobe scored 81). When I got the tickets, I was actually a little disappointed that the game was against the Raptors but was still thankful for the present. When the actual day of the game came around, however, I had just got done dj'ing 3 nights in a row and had a big week ahead of me, so I didn't feel like going to the game anymore. I called my sister and asked if she wanted the tickets back, to which she was happy to oblige and to which she made a comment... "this is the best Christmas present ever" (it's eerie how true those words turned out to be). Imagine my surprise later when I watched history unfold from the television at home and the chagrin I felt when my sister called me after to the game to thank me for giving the tickets back to her and to rub in the fact that I didn't want them. I actually regretted more the fact that I was unthankful for the tickets initially then the act of giving away the tickets themselves.

Anyhow, I guess the moral of the story is to not pre-judge anything; you never know when some random gift will turn into something really really special if you just let it.

CHECK THIS OUT

This was a routine I came up with last week. I still need to practice it a few (thousand) more times before I get it down solid.

CHERRY PIE

Me & the "dudes" from Green Door Wednesdays knew that Green Door would be too small for our Pre-Thanksgiving extravaganza so we are moving over to Cabana Club for one night only.

Note that everybody names their Pre-Thanksgiving party something stupid like "Turkey Jam" or "Turkey Fest" or "Turkey Jamfest"... but we named ours "Cherry Pie". Why? When I asked Jamie Barren, he said "...cuz there will be a lot of cherry pie in the house". I have no idea what that means but it sounds pretty good.
