Why aren’t ski poles stored on ski roof racks?

I’ve skied for most of my life and had a roof rack for several seasons now. During a recent road trip, a snowboarder friend asked me why I kept my poles in the trunk and not on the roof rack with my skis. I had no answer, other than I’ve never seen anyone else put their poles on the roof rack.

interesting question. reminds me of the reason you cut a roast in half before you cook it… because your great-grandmother didn’t have a pan big enough! I would guess its either because back in the day bindings were relatively small and pole baskets were huge. They probably wouldn’t fit because the skis used to sit closer to the car than now with the more protruding rear binding pieces. or…. because great-granny is back at it and she was gettin all her peeps to the ride and there was no more room on the rack.?!
