What is the difference between the mixer and summer in the communication system?
A mixer is simply a multiplier, and summer is a snake. Typically, the block diagram of one or the other is a circle with an X in the circle of the console, and a + in the circle for the summer. In practice, summer is generally the same that is used as a separator – You know, the couplers used in distribution systems and cable / antenna to be seen everywhere, even at home. It is true that when connected in some way, the input signal is divided into multiple outputs. But when you connect to the contrary, multiple entries are added! Very cool. The mixer is double balanced mixer, usually consisting of four diodes and a transformer. At the transmitter, is used for upconverting the baseband signal at the carrier frequency. At the receiver, is used to do the opposite! (Although in practice is used downconvert the first carrier frequency "intermediate" frequency, where band pass filtering then another is used to transfer the baseband frequency.) You can buy the two mixers and splitters / summer / multiplexers mini-circuits. They are cheap.
