I would like to turn my bedroom into a recording studio using my computer. Read the details below?
I am a R&B singer, similar to Omarion, Chris Brown, Mario, etc. My bedroom is carpeted. My computer has FL Studio 7 XXL, I am planning to upgrade my RAM to 1 GB. I can get any software needed, because my cousin owns a software store. I also have some old equipment. I don’t know how useful it may be, due to fact that I don’t have any prior knowledge. I have Pioneer Audio Digital Timer DT-560, Sansui Quartz Pll Synthesizer Turner T-700, Sansui Stereo Graphic Equalizer SE-300, Pioneer Reverberation Amplifier SR-9, and a Technic Stereo Integrated DC Amplifier SU-V8X. What else would I need to buy? Besides a mic. Please tell me what type of mic should I buy? Please tell about mixers, acoustics, pianos, etc. I am on a very, very tight budget, maybe $500. What else should I buy. I don’t know how to play it, but I have an electrical guitar with an amp. I make beats with fruity loops 7 xxl. How useful is any of this stuff? Please HELP! I’ve asked this question 2 other times, no good answers.
Hi
First of all your old gear apart from perhaps one of the amps and the graphic is pretty much useless unless you are after a really lo – fi sound… but keep it handy for that purpose just in case.
Any PC 1.6 Ghz or faster with heaps of ram is fine for basic audio work, you need to get a good soundcard, you can pick up either an old echo Gina or Layla, there is a multitude of secondhand gear to choose from on ebay a reasonable prices… Motu 2408′s are pretty cheap these days and sound great.
With any of the above you can get away without a mixer, but even a small 6ch mixing desk will aid in the recording process a great deal… Behringer make some really nice small desks, particularly the xenyx series… speaking of Behringer, they make an excellent series of Mics named… wait for it… B1 and B2, you can pick one up secondhand on ebay for around $100 and they are well worth it.
As far as digital piano is concerned, buy a cheap USB keyboard controller and use a PC sampler package to get your keyboard sounds.
I strongly reccommend Sony Acid Pro 6 for all your recording and production work. Also spend as much as you can afford on good monitoring equipment :ie senheiser headphones and/or yamaha or bose speakers. Dont get behringer headphones tho… they suck.
Any further questions you can contact me at quentonmiles@yahoo.com.au
Hope this helps.

TECHNICS SL-1200MK2 Automatic Stereo Turntable $849.95 Remember what DJs used in the club before the 1200s? Nobody else does either. That’s because their heavy-duty design, vibration-resistant construction, and mechanical precision make a lot of what those early DJs did possible. This deck was the first to feature a Direct Drive motor, quartz movement for total accuracy, adjustable tone arm weights, anti-skate control, a pop-up target light and a slid… |
